Susie Shipman

Susie Shipman learned the art of bookbinding to provide herself and friends with high-quality sketchbooks, journals and albums. Now she extends the opportunity for others to enjoy these durable and beautifully hand-bound books.

Susie hand stitches each book using her version of long stitch, a fifteenth century binding technique she learned from a book conservator.

• Each book contains up to 200 artist quality, acid free cotton pages. . .each carefully hand stitched into the spine with archival waxed linen thread.

• Handmade paper end sheets are folded to secure loose notes while the book is open. Inside pages are protected by the wrap-around leather cover, which will be enhanced by time and use.

• The hand forged buttons, woven binding and supple leather all contribute to the individual character of each book.
