Mary-Jane Elgin

Mary Jane Elgin is a native of Altadena, California. Originally educated as a painter and weaver, she studied in Japan for two years and developed a passion for the Japanese ideals of nature and art. She started experimenting with clay in the 1970’s while teaching children’s art classes, and in 1994 began her formal ceramics studies. Over the last 15 years she has developed her own unique style, fusing sculpture, painting, texture and design into her ceramics. Her finished forms combine with their glazes to create a fresh new look of timeless beauty fused with a traditional craftsman sensibility. She now lives with her husband in Eastsound, Washington.
