A full-time resident of Orcas since 1975, I have made a living and raised a family as an artist blacksmith for the last 27 years. Over the years most of my past work has focused on architectural ironwork, functional artistic pieces which are designed and custom made for a specific location and client. These include hundreds of interior and exterior railings, screens, doors and gate hardware, light fixtures, wall panels and garden trellises.
In recent years I have allowed myself more time to make smaller sculptural pieces for my own artistic expression and continuing education.
I work mostly in steel, the elemental black metal that is the heart of the blacksmiths craft. This tough and abundant material is made malleable in the intense heat of the forge fire, shaped and transformed between hammer and anvil. Even after almost three decades pursuing this most demanding craft, I feel deeply inspired to continue exploring the vast potential of art made possible in hot iron.
