PASTELS BY ANN JONES AT ARTWORKS

The Orcas Island Artworks features pastel paintings by Ann Jones through the months of April and May.

In Ann’s new work, the painting surface is an integral part of the painting. She prepares her surfaces with acrylic paint and gesso, creating a sculptural ground of spontaneous, random patterns. The subsequent pastel layers adhere differently to the highs and lows of the surface, resulting in a complex, richly textured visual experience.

“As I drive around the island the pastures capture my imagination. I love the patterns and changes of hue as the various grasses grow, bloom and mature throughout the year. I’m attempting to capture their unfolding colors, character and movement.”

The Artworks is open daily from 10 to 5.

Artworks Reopens February 18th

The Orcas Island Artworks will reopen on February 18th for the new season. Hours will be 10am -5pm everyday. The gallery is filled with new works from local artists so drive out and see us!

Art Quilts by Anne Peterson Featured at Artworks

The Orcas Island Artworks features pictorial quilts by Ann Peterson through February and March.

Ann’s textile pieces are based on photographs taken on Orcas Island. She uses stitching, fusible applique, ink printing and hand painting to create her images. “I hope to stimulate memories of a certain time or place on the island. I am striving to bring the viewer into a closer look at the natural world and the beauty of not only the larger scene but also the small and intimate. The addition of thread and stitching invites the viewer to take a closer look.”

The Artworks reopens for the new season Saturday, February 18 and will be open daily from 10 to 5.

Holiday Party at the Artworks

The Orcas Island Artworks celebrated the season with a holiday party on December 14th. The gallery was filled with sweet and savory foods that were enjoyed by our guests. The Artworks will remain open until December 31st.

ARTWORKS FEATURES GEOFF SHILLING AND TINA BROWN

Studio partners Geoff Shilling and Tina Brown present “Natural Impressions” at the Orcas Island Artworks through the month of December.

This body of work was inspired by autumn on Orcas Island. Mixed media panels showcase Geoff’s jacquard weavings of oversized foliage while Tina’s cacophony of decorative papers act as their setting. In an experimental twist, they use lacquer to stiffen the woven pieces, enabling them to treat the fabric more like paper, while the decorative papers act more like fiber.

This is Geoff and Tina’s third collaborative show. They enjoy the artistic play that happens when creating a joint work of art, integrating their contrasting mediums and work habits.

The Artworks is open daily from 10 to 5.

Holiday Elves Decorate the Artworks Gallery
